Slip on flanges and weld neck flanges are two of the most widely used pipe connection fittings in industrial piping systems.They differ greatly in structure,welding method,pressure resistance,cost and applicable working conditions,so it is necessary to select reasonably according to actual project demands.

A slip on flange features a simple structure and low production cost.The pipe directly slips into the flange inner hole for socket welding,which requires less welding technology and shortens construction time.It is lightweight,easy to install and disassemble,and ideal for low-pressure,low-temperature,conventional water supply,drainage and general ventilation pipelines.However,its overall structural strength is weak,the welding seam bears limited load,and it cannot withstand high pressure,strong vibration or severe corrosion environments.It is mostly used for ordinary industrial and civil conventional pipeline systems with low safety requirements.

A weld neck flange is designed with an integrated tapered neck and adopts full penetration butt welding connection.The welding joint has high structural stability,uniform force bearing and excellent sealing performance.This type of flange boasts strong pressure resistance,high temperature resistance,vibration resistance and fatigue resistance,and can adapt to harsh working conditions such as high pressure,high temperature,low temperature,chemical corrosion and medium conveying with strong impact.Its long neck design effectively disperses pipeline stress,reduces welding crack risks,and greatly improves the overall safety and stability of the pipeline.The disadvantages are higher cost,complex welding process and higher requirements for construction welding technology.

In short,for conventional low-pressure,normal-temperature and non-vibration pipelines with a limited budget,slip on flanges are the cost-effective choice.For high-pressure,high-temperature,corrosive media,vibration equipment and key process pipelines that require high operational safety,weld neck flanges are the reliable option to ensure long-term stable operation of the system.
