You can select the proper material for forged fittings by following these key factors: working pressure, temperature, medium corrosion, industry standard and installation environment.
First, confirm pressure and temperature conditions.
Carbon steel such as ASTM A105 is ideal for normal high-pressure and room-temperature pipelines. For ultra-high temperature and high-pressure service in power plants, alloy steel like A182 F11, F22 and F91 is the best choice. Low-temperature projects usually adopt A350 LF2 low-temperature carbon steel to avoid brittle fracture.
Second, consider corrosive media.
If the pipeline carries water, acid, alkali or chemical fluids, choose stainless steel grades A182 F304 and F316, which have excellent rust and corrosion resistance. For strong corrosive working conditions, higher-grade stainless or alloy materials are recommended.
Third, match industry standards and certification.
Oil & gas, chemical and power industries have strict standard requirements. Make sure the material complies with ASTM, ASME and related piping specifications to guarantee safety and compatibility.
Finally, take cost and service life into balance.
Carbon steel is cost-effective for conventional projects; stainless and alloy steel cost more but provide longer service life under harsh conditions. Choosing the matched material avoids leakage, deformation and early failure of forged fittings.
